Bloody Bright Blinkers! | Dynamic Motorrad LED Turn Indicators

After looking at another brand of LED inserts which also serve as running lights, and after balking at the $500 price for a set of 4, I finally came across a solution I could live with. These Dynamic Motorrad LED bulbs (not inserts) are just that - bulbs. They have no running light capability but are just bloody bright blinkers! And that is what I needed, given that I already have Denali D2 Driving Lights up front which make me very visible, thank you! It would be nice to have red-running lights at rear nut I am not spending $250 for them - sorry. We'll see how long these will last (I hope for the life of the bike!) but for now I am very pleased! This is a simple installation but as usual I offer a couple of tips as well as a comparison between these LED solutions and the actual BMW LED Indicators on the S1000R.

Review of DuPont Matte Finish Motorcycle Detailer

Have a matte finish on your bike or helmet and want to know what is best to maintain the coating and not get it worn down to a shine? Gentle washing and no polishing but finish with DuPont Matte Finish Motorcycle Detailer. Leaves a nice clean rich matte finish. Check out the results I got.

No More Mushroom Plugs!

The problem with mushroom plugs is that they can dry out between uses and that could result in you being left stranded on the road. If that happens the plugs are not so easy to come by when on the road. Here is my solution.

Installation of the QuadLock Vibration Dampener

After having two iPhone cameras fail due to vibrations from being hard-mounted to my motorcycles, I got this vibration dampener from QuadLock. Hopefully the problem is now solved.

BMW Navigator GPS Sunshade

Ever since owning the BMW Navigator IV some time ago I thought about getting a sunshade to improve the viewing of the screen, especially in bright sunshine. I was not willing to pay the $50 or so that it cost so I never got it. Instead, I waited until the BMW Navigator VI was released and even though it had a completely redesigned and brighter screen, I still decided to get it. I recently noticed the sunshade on Amazon for $25 (still a lot for a bit of plastic) but decided to give it a try and see if it could improve the already bright Nav VI screen.

Review of the Cardo Audio Set 45mm Speaker Upgrade
Grumpy Goat

I recently purchased the 45 mm upgrade speakers from Cardo Systems and offer this product review. In buying the larger JBL speakers I thought that if the stick speakers sounded so good, then these must be even better. In this video I compare the speakers outside the helmet and also on a ride, after installing in my Shoei helmet. The result was surprising.

Review of Cool Covers Seat Cover for the BMW R1200RS / R1250RS
Grumpy Goat

So you live in a warm climate like I do and also ride long distances ... you probably would appreciate some air-conditioning for your body part that sees little to no breeze while riding. Some of us like to stand up from time to time to get some airflow across your butt.

Vizi-tec SupaBrake 3 BMW Installation
Grumpy Goat

Shortly after installing my Denali B6 Auxiliary License Plate brake light, I noticed that my main rear light was not flashing after the brakes were applied. Assuming that the B6 or the CANsmart Controller (or both) were interfering with the function of the installed Vizi-tec SupaBrake II, I sent a message to Bernard at Vizi-Tec and he promptly replied saying he had never heard of that, and suggested that the SupaBrake II might be itself at fault. He undertook to send me the updated SupaBrake 3 as a replacement. What service!

This video is simply the installation of the SupaBrake 3 in place of the previous SupaBrake II. There are over 108,000 settings for this module and this video does not go into that! There is an installation manual that is on the Vizi-Tec website that walks you through the process.

Comparing the SupaBrake II vs the SupaBrake 3 operation out of the box, I was surprised to see that when I first activated the brakes after a start-up, the brake light did not flash. But after a few seconds, subsequent pulls on the brake lever produced the expected flashing before steady btake light. When contacted about this, Vizi-Tec said "... the factory setting on the SB3 is same as profile setting#6 on the SB2. [The] Only diff is that SB2 powers up fully set and really to pop! SB3 starts off re-SET. It needs time to do its thing."

Excellent Replacement Windscreen for the BMW R1200RS
Grumpy Goat

The BMW R1200RS is, in most respects, an excellent sporty sport-touring motorcycle. It has very few faults, but one thing owners all seem to agree upon is that the windscreen could be better. Some want a sportier windscreen more for looks, while others who actually go touring on the bike want more ias toward wind protection and smoother airflow. It is hard to make one windscreen to satisfy all riders.

In this video, I install, test and review a windscreen that I think provides the best compromise on the market. It is sporty and it is much better than the stock windscreen in all respects, not to mention it is smaller too! The windscreen is also offered for other makes and models also, so it you don't own an RS you may still find the video of interest.

The video is a bit long but it contains content that may be quite useful to RS owners from the novice to the experienced DIYer, and speaks directly to members of the r1200rsforums.com members.

GS 911 USB First Look and Service Icon Reset
Grumpy Goat

This is a first look and use of my new HEX Code GS-911 USB (Gen 2) on my 2016 BMW R1200RS. The bike needed its 24k mile service and I had just done the oil and filter and air filter changes.

This is the first time I was using the GS-911 USB so I was learning as I went along. This is not a review of the tool.

Grumpy Goat

Here are some tips for installing SW-Motech crash bars on a 2016 BMW R1200RS.

This is not a step-by-step how-to installation video, since the installation is very straightforward. For a step by step video check out the video from the Missenden Flyer who installed these crash bars on his R1200GS.

BMW R1200RS Vortex GPS Bracket installation
Grumpy Goat

Installation video of the Vortex GPS Bracket custom designed for the BMW R1200 RS.

Just to let you know, my re-bending of the one tab on the Vortex mount did not appear to affect the product's finish in any way. I am assured by TonyT that the tabs are all bent in a special jig and that my one bent tab is a bit of an unexplained anomaly. As you can see from the video, all the other tabs came perfectly bent and all lined up with the holes perfectly.

Handle bar bolts - The part number is 07 12 9 907 373, ISA Screw - M8x35

Interested in getting your own Vortex Custom GPS Mount? Unfortunately this is no longer made / available. I know the inventor / manufacturer via the now defunct RS1200Forums.com forum and should he decide to start making them again I will make this information known on this website and on the YouTube channel.
